We were delighted to have the opportunity to extend this quirky little house in the heart of Penylan. The house was beautifully designed, but only had one bedroom. The client wanted to explore the possibility of extending to create a child’s bedroom. Due to the nature of the site and the density of the area, extending into the garden would have greatly reduced the green space available to the young family. We tried a fresh approach and extended the upper floor along the front facade to come flush with the existing porch. This was enhanced with a bay window, which replicated the architectural language of the street, and simultaneously added a few precious inches to the floor space. The wide bay window makes the new bedroom a light and airy space.
